Designing gardens that work with the city, not against it
Most garden design advice assumes you have horizontal space, predictable sunlight, and soil you can dig into. None of that applies to urban environments.
City gardens exist in fragments. A balcony catches morning sun but gets blasted by afternoon wind. A courtyard stays shaded until midsummer. A rooftop offers full exposure but weight restrictions and drainage challenges.
Traditional landscaping approaches fail here because they don't account for these constraints. We built our practice around them instead.
We visit your space and document light patterns, wind exposure, existing drainage, and structural limitations. This takes between one and two hours depending on complexity.
You receive a planting plan with specific species selected for your microclimate, material specifications, and a phased implementation timeline if relevant.
We source plants directly from specialist growers and coordinate with contractors for structural work when needed. Installation typically completes within one to three days for most projects.
The first season determines long-term success. We provide watering schedules, monitor establishment, and make adjustments as plants settle into their environment.
We prioritise species that offer year-round interest and require minimal intervention once established. This means favouring perennials over annuals, selecting drought-tolerant varieties for exposed locations, and choosing plants that support local pollinator populations.
Every design balances aesthetic goals with practical maintenance requirements. If you travel frequently or work long hours, your garden needs to function without constant attention.
Our team brings together training in landscape architecture, horticulture, and urban planning. We've worked on projects ranging from single balconies to multi-level residential developments across London, Manchester, Bristol, and Edinburgh.
We're members of the Society of Garden Designers and maintain active relationships with specialist plant nurseries throughout the UK.
